The Sisters of Mercy arrived in Carlow in 1837. In 1839, this school was founded and opened at St. Leo’s on the Dublin Road. In 1962 it was resited to St. Catherines on St. Joseph’s Road and in 1976 transferred to its present location in Askea. A plaque was unveiled in the school by Sr. Helena O’ Donoghue, Provincial leader of the Sisters of Mercy on September 26th 1997 to mark 21 years in Askea.
