Junior Achievement

by Holy Family G.N.S. on 22 June 2014 22:43

Junior Achievement is an educational programme that links local industry to schools. Merck, Sharpe, Dohme in Carlow has a number of trained volunteers, many of them past pupils of our school who presented various programmes to three classes this past school year. 2nd classes, Rooms 7 and 8, studied “Our Community”, where the girls learned about workers, the work they perform, why they are paid, what taxes are and how these taxes are used,  as well as where to save money.

5th class, Room 14 explored “Our World”. Through hands- on activities ,the girls explored science, technology, engineering and maths skills and the role they play in the future of the business world. The girls also examined entrepreneurship and developed their own business ideas.

The Junior Achievement programme is a very enriching and rewarding experience for the girls. It inspires and motivates them to realise their potential by valuing education and understanding how to succeed in the world of work. We are very grateful to all the volunteers for their professionalism and enthusiasm in presenting the programmes and we look forward to another successful partnership next year.
