Scríobh Leabhar’ and ‘Write a Poem’ projects.

There were great celebrations in the Watershed Leisure Complex in Kilkenny on Friday 16th May, at the prize giving for the Kilkenny Education Centre, ‘Scríobh Leabhar’ and ‘Write a Poem’ projects. The ‘Scríobh Leabhar’ project involved primary school pupils writing and illustrating books “as Gaeilge”.The children loved being authors and illustrators. Over 20 pupils from our school , were presented with medals and certificates for their endeavours. They are Lifa Khan, Agnieska Kramarczyk, Jessica Almeida, Emilia Hamulewicz, Ewelina Woloszyn, Jagoda Madei, Patrycja Wozniak, Magdalene Filopowicz, Brianna Lupchian, Leisa Jacob, Karina Dzierba, Alex Mc Assey, Dion Rose Timmons, Natalia Ziemianin, Stacey, Akintayo, Emma Mahon, Emily Mc Mahon, Tara Murphy, Natalia Sluzel and Sonateja Liutkute.

 

The “Write a Poem”, project with   “My  Heritage” as its theme, had pupils from Junior Infants to 6th class creating wonderful poems on subjects such as, My Environment; Rivers and Waterways; My Ancestors and family and Historical Buildings and Architecture. A selection of these poems has been published in a poetry book called “My Heritage”, which was launched on the day.

5 pupils from our school  had their poems published in this beautiful publication. They are Hanna Syzmancyk, Natalia Lawnczak, Ella Conway, Maryam Akintayo and Brianna Lupchian. 

Over 20 pupils were presented with prizes of wild flower seeds, a book of poetry and a winners’ badge:

They are Margaret Berry, Nicoleta Peric, Ania Papaj, Faye Townsend, Auske Vasiliauskite, Leah O Neill, Shauna Doyle, Abbie Nulty, Esther Oluwabiyi, Amelia Hamulewicz, Heather Sue Meally, Deborah Martins, Judy Honan, Katie Jacob, Sophie Dowling, Abby Cleaver, Michaela Kuhne, Emily Mc Mahon, Caitlinn Doyle, Niamh Core, Erin Kelly and Lucie Havlikova.

Guest of honour on the day was Borris native and winner of “The Voice”, Pat Byrne, who entertained the audience with a selection of songs. He encouraged the children to keep writing and creating. Well done to all involved and congratulations to all our winners. All the children had a wonderful day.
